Subject: External Review of the Department of Computing Sciences
Date: July 1, 2009
Last updated: Sept. 18 added updated agenda

Don: On behalf of the Department of Computing Sciences, I would like to thank you for agreeing to externally review the Elon Department of Computing Sciences on October 1-2, 2009. As past president of CSAB and as a  team chair of site evaluations for over 20 years, you possess the highest level of expertise in evaluating computing sciences programs. We are looking forward to your review and evaluation to determine areas that we can improve.

The intent of this email is to provide you easily navigable links to detailed information on the department.  Please contact me at any time if you need additional information or have any questions.  Please let me know if you would prefer hard copies of any or all of the department information.

The information developed in preparation of the review is shown below:

  1. Department web page. The site contains a description of the majors, minors and courses. If you look at the right hand column, you can see a list of recent faculty presentations or awards.
  2. Department five year plan presents the goals and objectives of the department from AY 06-07 to  AY 11-12.
  3. Department annual report for 08-09. Lists accomplishments for past year and goals for upcoming year. I have made this a very detailed document in anticipation of  your visit.
  4. Department assessment procedures gives a description of the department assessment process and timeline of the process.
  5. Department Chair web site contains detailed information of the department in the categories of Planning, Enrollment/Graduation Data, Course Work, and Faculty. This is a site that I continually maintain to keep track of data that is needed for a review of the department. Under course work, the yearly pre and post assessment of each course is kept in the documents for AY 2008-2009 Course coordinators for CIS and CSC.
